Filipino Mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral

2009.07.04
Every 2nd Sunday of each month, a Filipino mass is celebrated at St Patrick’s Cathedral in Parramatta. We went there on the 14th of June.

The main entry door… but is no longer used. Behind it is the altar.

At the rear is where the new entrance is…

The church’s interior has been reconfigured with modern fit out.

Behind the church is the Murphy House, built in 1904 as a Presbytery in memory of Father Peter Bede Murphy, a popular young priest at that time. He died at the old Presbytery on the same site where the Murphy House now stands.

The old church is no longer used for regular masses. A modern structure has been built beside it. Still called St Patrick’s Cathedral, this is where regular church services are being held.

The interior is modern as well…

The church fixtures are contemporary works of art too…

The Filipino mass…

After the mass is a feast at the church’s multi-purpose hall! Some Filipinos bring food to share to those who decide to stay awhile after attending the Sunday service. There’s enough food for everyone, and mostly Filipino dishes.

Outside, winter is almost here…

In front of the church is Our Lady of Mercy College...

And in the vicinity are nice looking old houses…
